The day’s testing at Daytona had plenty of interuptions a late start due to fog and and plenty of red flags. As night fell, more fog descended and rain threatened but the star-filled IMSA filled had a trouble session.
Bets were being taken as to how many red flags we would have but there was only a single disruption after the first hour of the 90 minute evening test.
In the Prototype class Olivier Pla again starred for Michael Shank Racing, recording a time of 1:39.687. Last year’s Sebring pole winner aboard a similar P2-style car was again on form to push the Shank entry ahead of Katherine Legge’s time aboard the DeltaWing.
Veteran “Max the Axe” Angelelli showed he still has the pace by being the fastest Daytona Prototype for Wayne Taylor Racing in third ahead of Pipo Derani in the Team Patrón ESM Ligier.
In the GTLM ranks BMW’s Bruno Spengler may not regular get many night laps in the DTM but that didn’t slow him tonight when he set the fastest time of 1:45.510.
The Ford GT shone bright in night conditions by being second and third fastest – Stefan Muecke outpacing Sebastien Bourdais.
Corvette Racing bounced back from its fire aboard the No.4 car yesterday by clocking the fourth fastest time. Endurance driver and Audi LM P1 regular Marcel Fassler set the time.
In the PC class, IndyCar driver Jack Hawksworth set the pace while in GT Daytona the new-to-IMSA Lamborghini Huracan GT3 was fast – setting the fastest, third and fifth fastest times.
Mirko Bortolotti set the pace as the 15 cars in GTD were covered by less than a second.
Teams are back on track at Daytona tomorrow for two final sessions at 10:20am and 2:40pm.
